It’s a new year, and with it comes the opportunity for fresh new things – like television shows. With the short winter days, we’re looking for Latinx shows that are dropping new episodes now, and luckily, in 2023, there are several ones to watch. And we’re talking programs that are Latinx-centered, with Latinx characters looking right back at us on the small screen. Because representation truly matters. Here goes:
Lopez vs Lopez
Lopez vs Lopez stars iconic Chicano comedian George Lopez, his daughter Mayan Lopez, and several other notable Latinxs such as Selenis Leyva, Al Madrigal, and Brice Gonzalez. The sitcom centers around the father and daughter pair who reconnect after several years estranged. Lopez vs Lopez originally premiered on NBC in November of last year and has since had more episodes greenlit for its first season.
Freeridge
Fans of the canceled Black and Brown-centered Netflix series On My Block have a reason to rejoice. The L.A.-based show, which ran for four seasons, has a spinoff called Freeridge. Premiering on February 2, the show follows sisters Gloria (Keyla Monterroso Mejia) and Ines (Bryana Salaz) and their friends as they are forced to deal with a curse they accidentally unleashed.
Nikki Bella Says I Do
In addition to the scripted Latinx shows, there is a new reality program that stars a celebrity Latina getting ready for her big day. Chicana professional wrestler, TV personality, author, and entrepreneur Nikki Bella, one half of The Bella Twins, stars in the upcoming special, Nikki Bella Says I Do. It chronicles her walk down the aisle with her partner, dancer, choreographer, and Dancing with the Stars alum Artem Chigvintsev. You can catch the series on E! starting January 26.
