Arm Yourself With These Educational Podcasts

Educational podcasts round up

Free information is free education. Learning things arms us to make better choices, help ourselves, and more importantly, others. With libraries under attack, cuts at the Department of Education, and an administration that is set on us being as ignorant and isolated from the truth as possible, it is more important than ever to learn and share. Thankfully, there are still plenty of free resources available, including educational podcasts. In fact, here are several that will teach you everything from how to invest your money to what’s happening in Latinx culture to your legal rights.

All Things Latina Podcast

Latina have historically been underrepresented in all forms of media, podcasts included. That is what makes educational podcasts like Tani Estefy’s All Things Latina Podcast that much more important – that, and the fact that its goal is to “elevate you in your business and career.” Estefy divides the show into four sections: business, career, empowerment, and money, and interviews with Latinas such as Ashley K. Stoyanov Ojeda and Kim Guerra.

Diversifying

Delyanne Barros, a.ka. Delyanne the Money Coach, teamed up with CNN to offer money advice tailored to “those who are usually ignored: women, people of color, the LGBTQ community, and lower-income individuals.” On Diversifying, she interviews experts to explore topics such as taxes, retirement, the cost of childcare, and student debt.

The Immigration Lawyers Podcast

It’s as important as ever to know your legal rights in the United States. This is the information the government doesn’t want us to have access to – so here it is! The Immigration Lawyers Podcast shares expert commentary, federal court updates, immigration law changes, interviews, and more to empower and educate the masses. Added bonus? The video podcast is also available on YouTube.

The Latin American History Podcast

If you don’t know where you came from, you don’t know where you are going. History is as important for Latinxs to learn as what is happening right here, right now. The Latin American History Podcast offers History 101 through educational episodes about “Spanish and Portuguese America.” What can you expect to learn about? How about “A History of Mesoamerican Food,” “Scotland’s Failed Attempt to Colonise Latin America,” “Into El Dorado,” “Ancient Mexico,” and much more.

Latino USA

The Maria-Hinojosa-led Latino USA is “the longest-running public radio Latino news and cultural program,” having run for more than three decades. A home and a hub for the Latinx community, it’s covered topics ranging from the 1920s Spanish-language version of the film Dracula, Latina AIDS activists during the 1990s, and whether El Salvador has the right to jail Americans today.

Stuff You Should Know

Learning about new things means we are growing, and that’s a great thing. If you want to learn about a whole array of things in one place, then check out the popular Stuff You Should Know Podcast. Over 1,500 episodes introduce us to topics including “How Antidepressants Work,” “The Quinoa Revolution!,” and “The History of Glasses,” making a great choice from our list of educational podcasts to check out.

Sustainability Defined

If someone asked you to define sustainability, what would you tell them? Even if you know that it ultimately means being good to the planet (or something like that), we could all learn more about the topic. Thankfully, the Sustainability Defined podcast aims to demystify sustainability-related everything. We’re talking “Jewelry Sustainability,” “Avocado Sustainability,” “Food Waste,” “Supply Chain Human Rights,” and “Green Finance.” Because it’s easier to practice sustainability when you fully understand it, in its various forms.
