Your Netflix account is about to get a lot more Latino, from gothy tombs to sun-drenched fields. So bookmark this list and set your calendar reminders for all the release dates headed our way, familia. We’ve got some stuff to look forward – and I know we need it!
Wednesday
Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), Luiz Guzmán (Gomez), and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley) are all in the new season of Wednesday, along with Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester) and Joanna Lumley (Grandmama). ALSO Lady Gaga will be making an appearance, as we learned from her epic Tudum performance with the one and only Jenna Ortega. The world learned season 2 will be creeping back August 6 with part uno and September 3 for part dos.
The Rip
Latinas Catalina Sandino Moreno, Sasha Calle, and Lina Esco are joining Nestor Carbonell (along with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Teyana Taylor) for The Rip. The film is centered around a small group of cops who uncover a gigantic stash of cash in Miami. Will they accidentally lose the deniro, split it, or turn it over? Who is to say, but my vote is to at the very least buy some decent Cubano cafecito with it. The Rip doesn’t drop until January of 2026. In the meantime, you can support Catalina with her latest release Ballerina in theaters this weekend.
Frankenstein
Mexican filmmaker and author Guillermo del Toro is known for his take on both horror and fantasy genres. Frankenstein is no different. “I wanted to make this film before I even had a camera,” said del Toro at Netflix’s season-launch event Tudum.” He continued, “And I’ve been actively pursuing it for 25 years.” Del Toro was joined onstage with fellow Latinos Oscar Isaac (Dr. Victor Frankenstein) and Mia Goth (Elizabeth).
The award-winning director will add to his Netflix resume with Frankenstein when it drops in November. Early talk is that this will be another awards contender from del Toro. The three-time Oscar-winning director most recently added an Academy Award with Pinocchio – also with Netflix.
Happy Gilmore 2
Yes, Bad Bunny is going to be in Happy Gilmore 2.
He appears alongside Adam Sandler as the golfer’s new caddy. Does he drop more than balls in the film, maybe even a beat or two? We don’t know. But what we do know is that Benito is joined in the Netflix sequel by SNL alum and fellow Latino Marcello Hernandez. Happy Gilmore 2 will be teeing off on July 25. If Bad Bunny fans have anything to say about it, the film will be met with nothing but hole-in-ones and clear skies.
The Four Seasons
Netflix has confirmed they’re making a second season of The Four Seasons – hopefully, they’ll resolve that season one cliffhanger. We certainly want to see more of Colman Domingo in Tina Fey’s remake of the Alan Alda classic.
A Man on the Inside
The Ted Danson-led A Man on the Inside co-starred Stephanie Beatriz and Lilah Richcreek Estrada in its hugely popular first season. For season dos, Constance Marie (George Lopez) has joined the cast and it has been announced that season two is officially in production.
PS I know Stranger Things is not Latino, but it is big news that Netflix is dropping the fifth and final season in three parts, on November 26, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve. Just in case you’re anxiously waiting to return to the fictional Upside Down.
